Back in the winter, I found Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order, Monaco, etc.) hard at work on a tell-all book.

Except for isolated pockets around the continent, North America was unaffected by the rave culture of the late 80s and early 90s.

If you have ever formed a band, you’ll know that one of the first things you have to do is also the most tortuous. I’m talking about finding a name for your group.

I still remember what I was thinking when I read that death announcement: “This is this generation’s John Lennon moment. It’s their JFK moment. Don’t screw this up because people are going to remember this for a long, long time.”

I was right, too.
