The Grammys might have had their biggest audience in six years, but they did sh*t for Canadian record sales. Yes, some of the artists who performed on the show saw bumps in their numbers, but sales for the week were actually down 1% over last week. And the industry is 7% behind where they were this week last year.
Pink saw the biggest gain, thanks largely to her Cirque du Soliel-style performance with her Fun House album spiking up 276%. And even though she proved she can’t sing without real-time Auto-Tune, Taylor Swift’s sales when up 57% Even Kings of Leon saw a nice bump of 31%.
In the US, the person to benefit most from the Grammy halo in sheer numbers was Lady GaGa with a 15% sales increase. Meanwhile, in percentage terms, Pink was the winner, selling 235% more records. See what a nude body stocking can do for a career?
Meanwhile, everyone is watching the situation over at EMI. Will they get that much-needed injection of capital?
