A friend of mine tweeted a few days ago, that “funk was back”. He probably wasn’t referring to Lubriphonic, but he should have been.

I can’t even remember how I found Lubriphonic but I am damn happy I did. They are one of those bands, that I imagine are incredible live, but i’ve had to settle for now for their first album “Soul Solution” which has been spun numerous times and a few live shows that have been passed my way. They are a funk outfit from Chicago who just hit the note almost perfectly.

They’ve been working on their follow up to “Soul Solution” called “The Gig is On”, and the record is now complete. A few tracks feature the incomparable Ivan Neville, who is “vaguely” familiar with funk! If you don’t know who is, do a search on Wikipedia.  Lubriphonic by the way is quickly becoming one of those bands that I turn to now when I need to shake what my momma gave me.

The good news is, their manager who is all kinds of cool, has passed along a sneak peak of the new record, in the form of a stream, and we asked him if we could share it with you. He’s agreed, so click here, press play, listen to “The Gig is On” and get up and dance.
