This is the Indie Track of the Day Giveaway. It’s just like it sounds—every day we spotlight a song from an indie band/artist and we let you keep the track to do with whatever you like (within the limits of the law).
The song is part of our podcast, so if you want it (you do), search on iTunes for the ExploreMusic.com podcast, or just scroll down to the bottom of this page and click the links.
Long before Jill Hennessy became famous for her roles on TV’s “Law and Order” and “Crossing Jordan,” she moved to Toronto from Edmonton and acted as a musician, busking in the streets.
In 1989, an impromptu audition for “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story” led to Jill being cast as Buddy’s wife Maria Elena in the Broadway production of the musical.
Performing in a variety of bands in New York followed.
Jill’s recording debut occured in 2003, when she contributed two cover songs to the “Crossing Jordan” soundtrack.
Jill Hennessy’s debut album, Ghost in My Head, was produced by Grammy winner Patrick McCarthy, who has worked on albums by R.E.M., the Waterboys, Counting Crows, U2, Madonna, and others.
For both the album and live performances, Jill assembled the lineup of lead guitarist Robbie Gjersoe (the Flatlanders, Jimmie Dale Gilmore), cellist Brian Standefer (Alejandro Escovedo, James McMurtry), accordion player/keyboard player Bukka Allen (Terry Allen, the Flatlanders,
the BoDeans), bassist Glenn Fukunaga (Jo Carol Pierce, Los Super Seven), and drummer Rob Affuso (Skid Row).
