Monday, I got an email from my good friend Melanie asking if I wanted to interview Fat Mike about NOFX’s new EP "Cokie The Clown", the upcoming 3 disc Wrecktrospective Fat Wreck is releasing in 2010 in celebration of 20 years of the immensely important punk label…and as I found out, about how Fat Mike is doing some producing on the new record by Toronto’s own local heros, The Flatliners. (Don’t worry, Flats vet, Steve Rizun is still behind the wheel as well.)
If you haven’t heard the song or seen the video for Cokie The Clown, check it out. It rules. And I gotta say, Melvin’s vocals off the top kick ass. Actually, the entire EP kicks ass.
For obvious reasons, I always get a little frazzled when interviewing Fat Mike…anyways, he finally showed up @ The Bovine Sex Club in Toronto after producing for 2 days straight, and we talked Fat Wreck @ 1:30am. (he had to be at the airport @ 5am)…anyways, here’s the interview…
After the interview we talked about Metallica briefly, hung out with some friends, and Fat Mike bought us a round…it was pretty much an awesome night. Had a blast. Thanks for the interview Fat Mike!

It was interesting hearing Mike’s opinion on Propagandhi’s criticizing song “Rock for Sustainable Capitalism”. However I’m surprised that he didn’t have an opinion on the songs subject matter of supporting a pro Iraq war president (John Kerry) or being used as a billboard for selling Vans shoes.Vans of course being a venture capitalist clothing company using the method of slave labor to maximize profits.

I’m sure that wasn’t in the conversation with Brett Gurewitz who apparently would silence that debate if it was directed towards him. Im not surprised

One more thing, the song “One Celled Creature” didn’t make any sense.
