Just four months after announcing that the Foo Fighters were taking a break, Dave Grohl has revealed that a new Foos album is in the works.

Rolling Stone reports that the band will work with Butch Vig on the effort, in part to mark the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind, which Vig also produced. Also, the album will be recorded entirely in analog—and out of Grohl’s garage.

Grohl says that the album, the band’s seventh, will come with a DVD celebrating the Foo Fighters’ 16 years together and chronicling the making of the album.

The Foos’ quick return only surprises me because I thought the next couple of years were going to be all about Them Crooked Vultures, plus Taylor is doing something with his side band. I guess the timing for this re-teaming was just too perfect.

A lot has changed in the music world since ’91, not including the popularity of whatever band(s) Dave Grohl is in.

I’ve brought this idea up before, but is it possible that Dave Grohl is the biggest alt/new rock star in the world?

Another question this reminds me of: has the Foo Fighters’ legacy eclipsed that of Nirvana’s and/or has FF had more influence than Nirvana has had? Once, I would have thought it highly unlikely. Now, I wonder.
