One big advantage small indie labels have over the majors is their ability to be flexible and pro-active with the music created by the artists on their roster. Because most indies insist on signing 360 deals with their artists, there are fewer middlemen and impediments when it comes to doing something new and cool.
Take Dine Alone, for example. They sorted through their library and pulled out tracks from a mix of baby bands (Mocking Bird Wish Me Luck, Spencer Burton) and established artists (Arkells, Hot Hot Heat, Tokyo Police Club), stuck ‘em on a website and made them all available for download. For added interactivity, fans can use the supplied artwork or they can create images from their own library which then can then share on Twitter and Facebook. It’s also nice to have something displayed when you load everything into iTunes, too.
Nice work. Grab your free sample here.
