It has not been a great summer for CD sales—but if you read this report every week, you already know that right?
Sales are pacing 11% behind 2010 so unless there’s a monster fall, 2010 is going to go down as the Worst Year Ever. At least as far as physical product goes.
Katy Perry debuted at #1 in Canada with Teenage Dream, moving about 26,000 copies. Eminem—the brightest spot of the summer—sold another 15,000 units of Recovery. He’s now sold 309,000 in Canada alone. And Iron Maiden fans should be happy to see that The Final Frontier has managed to hold its own after a #1 debut, slipping to just #3. (Compare that to a #4 debut in America and a fall-off to #20 this week!)
Stateside, Katy Perry debuts at #1 (192,000-ish copies) with Fantasia’s Back to Me coming in at #2 (116,000 copies). Eminem is at #3, selling just shy of another 100,000 copies. Meanwhile, the Biebster keeps moving 28,000 or so copies of My World 2.0 every week. This kid won’t have to worry about his college fund.
