With a new greatest hits CD due in stores tomorrow, the Foos played a netcast through their Facebook page that ran for more than two hours from their Studio 606 HQ in LA. It was far more stripped down than anything U2 offered earlier in the week—the comparisons are unfair since U2 was also playing in front of 96,000 fans on a stage bigger than a Saturn V—but from where I sat in front of my computer, it was far more fun.
Technically, it was solid. No issues with the stream. The performance was unstructured and spontaneous with lots of the kind of jamming you’d expect to see in a rehearsal space. They goofed around with each other, interacted with the film crew, took requests online and generally had a great time. And I left with the same impression that I’ve had every single time I’ve seen the Foos play: they really, really, really, really love what they do.
I’ve decided that when I grow up, I want to be a member of the Foo Fighters. They’re having more fun than any humans should be allowed to have.
A rebroadcast of the stream is available here: http://www.livestream.com/foofighters Watch it while you can.
