Antiquiet reports that MTV, which stands for "Music Television," is dropping the "Music Television" from its logo.
Any current or former, casual or devoted, actual MTV viewers out there that think this isn’t an appropriate admission?

Well,
In all honesty, without taking away what MTV has done in it’s history, I think MTV and spin off’s like MuchMusic and Musiqueplus have wandered too far off the track that made what they are today.
It’s not about the music anymore, it’s about money and that is unfortunate for us and the bands.
The quality of programming has suffered over the years from corporate decisions made by people that have no clue as to what is going on in the music industry apart that it’s not going well.
MTV, MuchMusic and Musiqueplus are big role players in what is happening..
So, instead of taking the MTV away from their logo, they should take themselves out of the business in full. Sorry i’m dreaming there..
But we WOULD be better off without them.

It’s about time they did, when was the last time anyone saw a show directly dealing with music at all?

maybe its time for someone to drop down a real music TV station (or show) thats similar to exploremusic.com
* couch… Mr. Cross…. if anyone can do it.. well…i think you know that answer to that! -
I agree with the change as it better defines the programming that MTV offers. The term ‘Music Television’ implies there will be music played and currently there is little if any music played on MTV. I view them as a sort of lifestyle/ reality based TV channel with a slightly edgier feel, music has very little to do with them any more. I also agree with you Adam, viewers are responsible for not having tuned in to watch music videos but I don’t think that model really applies anymore. I believe more and more internet radio services and more and more TV channels will start appearing. With this increase in quantity will be the illusion of decrease in quality but that won’t be the case. What will happen is there will be more and more choices of things each of us does not want but the programming we do like will be designed specifically for us. The direction it is all headed is personalized and niche marketing, music television will rise again but just like audio only music, it will need a ‘VJ’ to sort it out for us or a very clever filter.
