If last night’s showcases are anything to go by, things should be just as smooth this evening.  Here’s a preview.

Two Hours Traffic (Charlottetown):  Quick:  name another alt-rock band from PEI!  On tour behind a new album called Territory, they’ve been winning hearts and changing minds without having to sing a single word about Anne of Green Gables.  They’re on first tonight. 

Silly Kissers (Montreal):  Their song “Halloween Summer” somehow transports me back to the sort of music the Human League was making in ’81-82.  If you thought the resurgence of vintage 80s sounds was going to end with MGMT, Owl City and Passion Pit, think again.

DD/MM/YYYY (Toronto):  Memo to self:  get the official pronunciation of this band’s name.  Chaotic, jerky and trashy stuff that seems like it all might fly apart any second.  Should be an interesting set.

Parlovr (Montreal):  Consisting of Festooned Hand Mirror (guitar), Tim Smoke Box (keyboards, guitar, vocals) and Red Oak Frame (drums) they seemed nicely paired with DD/MM/YYYY.  Give a listen to “Pen to the Paper.”

Silver Starling (Montreal):  Soaring guitar indie-pop.  Get introduced with a song called “Caught in Your Glow.”

Le Matos (Montreal):  Spooky synth-pop from an anonymous-looking trio.
