Another letter from my wife Lori in Afghanistan

Finally, after 1 day of rehearsal, and the warm up show at CFB Trenton, then 6 days of traveling and waiting around, the troops got their first rock show of the year in Afghanistan.  Here’s the latest from the show director/my wife Lori:

Feb 28-10 

Jeff,

We just got to a new base to the North of Kandahar.  It’s heavenly
compared to KAF. There are around 500 troops stationed here, a combination of US and
Canadian that we’ll perform for tonight.  These are the guys on the
front lines so we’re especially excited to do our show for them.

Our show last night at KAF was unbelievable!  We were a HUGE hit.  We
had a crowd of around 7,000 people.  All of them just enthralled and
really allowing themselves to get lost in the show.  Sure beats the
arms crossed, "impress me" mentality of so many audiences I’ve seen in
Toronto.

We stayed and signed autographs for a good hour and a half after the
show until we pretty much got forced into stopping.  Apparently I was
a bit of a hit too.  For the first time on record I had to stay near
the signing table because people were requesting me for autographs! :)

 We don’t have a stage manager so I help out in that area where I can
in the show.  These guys are so starved for entertainment that even my
changing mics and guitars  would be met with huge cheers from the
audience.  Very flattering.

Tomorrow we fly to Kabul and do our final show in Afghanistan. As much
as its been an experience I’m very very anxious to start moving back
west.  I can’t wait to get home. 

I miss you SO much and constantly daydream of being home with you.
It’s Sunday now so I guess we are coming around  the bend.

    I have seen this at so many concerts I have been to and it’s sickening. We live in a me world and appreciation runs thin..Paying alot of money for 2 hours if your lucky 3 in a perfect world is pathetic not to mention cant smoke cant stand up cannot move too much you may disturb..What has happened to our concert scene…I often say they/ones at concert should be at a ballet.!

    These photos are breathtaking; to see the way that our troops are living, surviving there in Afghanistan. I love that sign there. No matter the weather, there are always many of us at the Hwy of Heroes to say ‘Thank you’. What Lori said about the “mentality of so many audiences I’ve seen in Toronto”, do you think that The Eagles have something to do with that? I think what Lori says is true in many places now, not just TO. Did ‘Hell Freeze Over’ & we can thank The Eagles for that mentality? Thanks.
