The Jesus and Mary Chain have gone down in alt-rock history is one of the noisiest bands to emerge out of Britain in the 1980s. And as you might expect, the band has taken a lot of flak over their name through the decades with, of course, the biggest complaint being that they’re being blasphemous.
However, some people interpreted their name in an entirely different way. The Chain were once booked on country star Barbara Mandrell’s TV special because the producers thought that they were a gospel group. Fortunately for everyone involved, they were clued in to what the Chain was all about and the appearance was cancelled.
