“What You Do (Will Come Back To You)” by Lioness
Check out a band called “Lioness”. They’re a three-piece from Toronto who made a little money by landing a song in a Nike commercial last year. If you remember clubbing in the alternative days of the 80s, you might think that this is the sort of stuff that filled the dance floors. No wonder they were picked to open for The Cult last year.
Lioness has a self-titled debut EP. The second single is called “What You Do (Will Come Back To You)”.
“At Dawn They Sleep” by Six Feet Under
Six Feet Under is—surprise—a metal band. They’re part of the death metal thing in Florida. They decided to cover a Slayer song called “At Dawn They Sleep”. This version is good for people who though the vocals on the original were too well enunciated. You’ll find it on a CD called “Graveyard classics, Volume 3”.
“Little One” by Brandon Saller
Brandon Saller is from Huntington Beach, south of L.A. He’s the drummer for the band Atreyu and he’s trying to pull a Dave Grohl by showing everyone he can also sing and play guitar. You can see how he’s doing with a song called “Little One”.
“I’m Alive” by Story of the Year
Depending on where you stand on the subject, you may be happy or annoyed that emo is not dead. Story of the Year is back with an album that lies between post-hardcore and screamo. It’s up to you whether that means “emo” or not. Your call. The new album is “The Constant”. The song is “I’m Alive”.
“Rain” by The Cult
And since we started with a band who worships old-school cult, we wanted to include something from them at the end of the list. It’s back to the “Love” album in 1985 for “Rain”. Still rocks. Check out the video.
