The whole point of Canadian Music Week is to get as many bands in one place at one time so as many people can check out as many of them as they can. And they have come from all over the world. This is a major, major festival on the circuit.

Over the past eight shows, we’ve highlighted close to 50 of our favourites—and here are our final five.

“The World Is Calling” by Jeff Martin

Fans of The Tea Party might well want to know what happened to leader Jeff Martin. He’s moved to Ireland where he’s started a solo career. There’s one album so far. It’s called “Exile and The Kingdom”. If you liked The Tea Party, you will appreciate a song called “The World Is Calling”.

“Virginia Symphony” by Hello Beautiful

The second song on today’s list is from Hello Beautiful. They’re from Whitby, Ontario. A little punk, a little rock, a little hip-hop. The CD is called “Soundtrack For Scenario”. Start with a track called “Virginia Symphony” and move out from there.

“Sweet Sixteen” by Think About Life

Alan saw Think About Life at the M For Montreal festival back in November. They’re this great party band. Their shows are just a panic. Their biggest song is called “Sweet Sixteen” from a record called “Family”.

“Don’t Haunt This Place” by The Rural Alberta Advantage

We’ve talked about The Rural Alberta Advantage, the urban Ontario group from Toronto. Their album is “Hometowns”. A lot of people love it. We’ve picked a song called “Don’t Haunt This Place”.

“I Don’t Wanna Love U” by Najuah

And finally, Najuah. Six people from Toronto fronted by a couple of sisters. If you go to their MySpace page, you might expect them to sound a certain way—but then you start listening to the tracks they have posted and you realize that your preconceptions were all wrong. Check out a track from their “Broken Hearts” album called “I Don’t Wanna Love U”.
