Five Songs You Gotta Hear for March 2 2010

We Are The Men You’ll Grow To Love Soon” by Let’s Wrestle

This is an odd name for a band. They’re called Let’s Wrestle—although that may not be their original name. When you go to their MySpace page, note the URL

They’re English—London. They’re obviously influenced by whatever Alex Turner is doing with the Arctic Monkeys—but there are some Beach Boys in there. Once you hear this little pop song called “We Are The Men You Will Grow To Love,” it’ll probably end up in your brain for the rest of the day. Sorry about that.

Fists Don’t Fail Me” by KrashKarma

Next we have KrashKarma. This is not the Canadian band. Yes, there’s four of them, but one of them is a woman. They’re from someplace in California. They do not have a record deal—at least not yet. And they spell “KrashKarma” as one word and with “k’s” instead of “c’s”. And they don’t sound like our Crash Karma. Give a listen to a song called “Fists Don’t Fail Me” and all debate will be put to rest.

In Snakes I Bathe” by Annotations of An Autopsy

If we presented you with a band called “Annotations of An Autopsy,” what would you assume they sound like? You would be right: stuff that can and does wake the dead. The current record is called “The Reign of Darkness” and there’s a song entitled “In Snakes I Bathe” that has some of the best machine-gun double-bass drums Alan’s heard in a long time. Enjoy. This is music that will make the cat run away—which is great if you’re sick of the cat.

In Your Hands” by Charlie Winston

Charlie Winston, on the other hand, will make you want to pour a glass of white wine, light a candle and sit in the dark listening to the contented purring of your cat. He records for Peter Gabriel’s real world label—and he might remind you a bit of Ben Harper. Start with a song called “In Your Hands”.

The Seeds (2.0)” by The Roots

And for something just a little different, The Roots from 2003. It’s “The Seeds (2.0)” from the “Phrenology” album.
