“Lay Me Down” by The Dirty Heads feat. Rome
The first band on today’s list is called The Dirty Heads. They’re from Huntington Beach, south of Los Angeles. They mix reggae and hip-hop with a punky sort of sensibility. They have an album called “Any Port In The Storm”—and there’s this one song that features a dude named “Rome”. This is the same Rome who has been taking Brad Nowell’s place in Sublime during the recent reunion shows. Brad remains dead and looks like he’s going to stay that way—but Rome has been reasonably well-received.
Check out a Dirty Heads song called “Lay Me Down”. Good sound for spring.
“King of Spain” by The Tallest Man On Earth
Next, we have The Tallest Man On Earth. They’re a twangy/folky thing from Sweden. They’re firmly in the same camp as Bon Iver, Bob Dylan and maybe Feist. It’s not the kind of stuff you expect to come out of Sweden. You’ll see what we mean when you hear a song called “King of Spain” from their new album, “The Wild Hunt”.
“Death On Wheels” by A Primitive Evolution
A Primitive Evolution is a Toronto band who tries to meld Nirvana with Radiohead. There’s an interesting connection to the vampire movie “Suck” (which stars people like Moby and Iggy Pop). The band’s rehearsal space actually shows up in the movie.
Meanwhile, try the song “Death On Wheels”.
“Newchain” by The Vicious Guns
Song number four is from a band called The Vicious Guns. They aren’t, really. Not that vicious, really. They’re from Toronto and they have a self-title EP. A song called “Newchain” deserves a shot. They did a good job on a video.
“Seether” by Veruca Salt
And one more. This is back to 1993. Veruca Salt was this super-cute post-grunge band from Chicago bookended by singer Louise Post on one side and Nina Gordon on the other. Great debut record called “American Thighs,” which included a single entitled “Seether”. Still sounds great.

If you like The Dirty Heads song, then u should check out the song ‘Pirate Love’ By I-Shine. They are a German reggae group I think out of Bayern or Berlin. There’s english and german vocals in it, a really good song.
