Five Songs You Gotta Hear for March 9 2010

Air Loom” by Clothes Make The Man

This is Clothes Make The Man. They’re based out of Toronto. Four guys. Alan first met them when they did an online TV show together.

They’re already released some stuff, but they’re now testing new material on their MySpace page—and (no doubt) with their gig on Thursday night at the El Mocambo. A song called “Air Loom” has potential.

Let Me Drive” by Winter Gloves

Winter Gloves is a band we’ve had on the show before. They’re coming in from Montreal. Lots of keyboards and drums glued together by just enough fuzz. They record for Toronto’s Paper Bag records and play a special Quebec showcase on Friday. Go with a song called “Let Me Drive” from their 2008 album, “About A Girl”.

Wind Blows” by Yukon Blonde

“Yukon Blonde” is a good name for a group. They aren’t from the Yukon, though. They’re based in Vancouver. Some people feel a little Fleetwood Mac coming off them. Maybe Supertramp. Maybe you’ll hear it on a song called “Wind Blows”. The album is self-titled.

Blue Lines” by Styrofoam Ones

Styrofoam Ones are from Toronto. Their led instrument is a keyboard, but the bass and drums fill in more than enough to make them rock pretty good. Check out a song called “Blue Lines”. It’s really good. Alan likes farfisa organ.

Tastes Like Kevin Bacon” by iwrestledabearonce

And one more. This band is called “iwrestledabearonce”. That’s spelled as one word. They’re from Shreveport, Louisiana. They’ve convinced a million people to give them stuff through endorsements. And they have about 9 million plays on MySpace. The best track? “Tastes Like Kevin Bacon”. It will confuse you, but that’s the point. They also have some of the best t-shirt merch Alan’s seen in a long time. He says he might go to the gig just to buy a shirt.
