From my Legends weekly show #298 "People wonder, if CD’s have managed to increase in value, the answer is YES, at least some.
Now, as Olympic fever burns in Vancouver, and the athletes go for gold, so does Deep Purple as ‘Machine Head’ is coming out on Audio Fidelity.
Mastered by Steve Hoffman, the tracklisting is as follows:
‘Highway Star’
‘Maybe I’m A Leo’
‘Pictures Of Home’
‘Never Before’
‘Smoke On The Water’
‘Lazy’
‘Space Truckin”
Press Release:
Many consider this 1972 release, Deep Purple’s sixth studio album, to be their greatest effort, it was certainly their most successful recording, topping the charts worldwide.
The classic line up includes Ritchie Blackmore’s shredding and slinging riffs, Jon Lord’s haunting keyboards and Ian Gillian’s threatening rock and blues vocals blending with the no-nonsense style of Roger Glover’s bass and the energy of Ian Paice on drums.
The band defined themselves with hard-knocking metal classics including ‘Smoke On The Water’, featuring one of the most memorable guitar solos in the history of rock n’ roll and ‘Highway Star,’ the ultimate speed metal song.
Deep Purple proved with this album that they know how to play their metal music loud, impressive and hard-rocking and Machine Head is not only often cited as being very influential in the development of heavy metal music. It was recorded at the Grand Hotel, Montreux, Switzerland in December 1971 with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio.

Deep Purple releasing a 24K gold CD is big news. Is this remastered? I am always hesitant to buy remastered material – the studio engineer is like an additional member of the band and can make or break the recording. Either way, I have a plaque for that waiting

Hey Jeff, I helped put up the stage for a Classic Rock Weekend gig back in ’98, they were lookin a little long in the tooth then… however, they sounded great, rocked the hell out of the place and rejuvinated my deepest purples.
