Groove Tunes

You know the word ‘groove’ .    As a noun it could mean:

  1.  A long, narrow channel or depression; such a slot cut into a hard material to provide a location for an engineering component or a tire groove.
  2. A fixed routine.
  3. The middle of the strike zone in baseball, where the pitch is most eaily hit.
  4. A  pronounced, enjoyable rhythm.

Translations:  verb (groov, ed)

  1. To create, dance to, or enjoy rhythmic music.
I was just starting to groove to the band, when we had to leave.

Etymology: From grod.

Our friends at wikipedia.org suggest Groove is: the sense of propulsive rhythmic  "feel" or sense of "swing"  created by the interaction of the music played by a band’s rhythm section.

While some musicians have called the concept of "groove" a subjective and elusive notion, they acknowledge that the concept is well-understood by experienced musicians at a practical, intuitive level.

For me, groove is all over songs like ‘Slave’ by the Stones, ‘Master of Sparks’ by ZZ Top and "Fight" by the Tragically Hip.

I’m trying to put together a whole hour of ‘groove’ for this week’s new Legends hour-long show.

    Wow, so many, many good ones. I don’t envy you having to narrow it down thematically somehow. Well, actually i do.
    Here goes, Girl’s Got Rhythm, Layin’ Pipe, White Room, Eminence Front, Going Mobile, The Chain, Got Me Under Pressure, Hey Tonight(CCR), Malignant Narcissism (dawn says if you can’t dance to MalNar-you can’t dance),SRV’s Crossfire, Listen To The Music, China Grove, Miss You……
    Also, the ‘pocket’ created in LZ’s Carouselambra is one in which i wished to be picked up and carried around in ALL day.

    Hi Jeff,
    Im a little late on this…How about Drift away by Dobey Gray Great clappin tune…Listened to some old Satriani yesterday old film footage so any of his very fast paces. Or how about A little Grand Funk…more footage I have from 74…A little Shinin on!!!

    Bowie’s “Fame” started out as a jam session and has plenty of groove. Also just listened to an older Dylan tune “Silvio” which gets that folk rock groove thing going. Co-written by Dead associate Robert Hunter. Cheers.

    I was brought up in Windsor, during the the Motown era. Bob Seiger played our High School so many times that I can’t count how many times I saw him. I always liked his first hit.
