Henry Rollins’ Murder Horror

2 months ago by Alan Cross |

One of the reasons Henry Rollins is so intense is that he’s had some pretty intense experiences.

In 1991, he was sharing a house with his buddy Joe Cole, a former roadie  with Black Flag and who was then part of Henry’s crew.  One night, on the way home from the grocery store, Joe and Henry were ambushed by a gang.  They were taken back to their house in Venice Beach where they were forced to lie on the floor while the place was ransacked.  However, something went terribly wrong and during a struggle, Joe was shot dead.

Henry carries that day with him always–and even wrote a book about it called Now Watch Him Die.

Yea, I saw the live thing on youtube, where he’s talking about his friend. They had rented Rocky V from the video store and they were imitating Sylvester Stallone, walking back.

It’s so sad, because it was his long-time best friend, and Rollins has almost zero close friends. He cares so much.

He didn’t say it, but I think somehow, during that struggle, Cole decided to give his own life to protect Henry, because both of them only had minutes to live.
