Here’s The Deal: Digital Music Outlets, Nicky Wire, Nick Cave, Justin Bieber, Bedouin Soundclash

Here’s what I discovered today.

Here’s the Deal with Digital Music Outlets

There’s more and more competition for iTunes in the digital download space. HMV has their HMV Digital site up and running. Other sites like eMusic are getting better. And now Virgin Mobile is involved with a site offering DRM-free music.

And there’s more to come. Just wait until the fall when Google launches their online music store. Rumours are it’ll be ready before Christmas.

I like this. Competition is always good for everyone. The consumer gets choice and companies are forced to innovate.

Here’s the Deal with Nicky Wire’s Activities

Nicky Wire, the bass player for the Manic Street Preachers, is working on a script for the latest Dr. Who TV series. He calls the episode “Do Not Go Gently” and somehow involves the Doctor and the poet Dylan Thomas. He also adds “Of course, it’s going to have a f**king massive monster in it.”

Meanwhile, Nicky is still at war with Ed O’Brien from Radiohead over the issues of file-sharing and downloading. There have been some bad words thrown back and forth, too.

The UK media is eating it up. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good musical feud. Keep it up.

Here’s the Deal with Nick Cave’s Crow

Still with musicians writing scripts, Nick Cave has been hired to rewrite the remake of the 1994 movie, The Crow. That’s a comic book franchise that’s in need of major surgery and Nick might just be the guy to resurrect things. I think Cave is a great writer and I’ve enjoyed most of the movie scripts he’s done. This could be good.

Here’s the Deal with The Biebes

I have video of Justin Bieber in Glendale, Arizona, trying to escape a bunch of screaming teenage girls. He uses a Segway—but they get him and bring ‘im down.  It’s scary and funny at the same time. Enjoy it dude, because in two years, no one will care. And don’t send me hate mail because I said that.

Here’s the Deal with Bedouin Soundclash’s New Album

And finally, news on Bedouin Soundclash. Singer Jay Malinowski went off an did a solo thing to get some stuff out of his system—but when I spoke to him earlier this year, he assured me that Bedouin was fine and that there would be another album this year. It was mostly recorded this spring and is set for release on September 28. They’re calling it Light the Horizon and the first single is out now. It’s called “Mountain Top.”
