Here’s the Deal with "Hockey: The Musical!"

This is really annoying. Last year, I was offered a cameo appearance in "This Movie is Broken," that film built around a Broken Social Scene concert that’s getting all the great reviews. The producer offered to write me in for some kind of cameo role—but it was a Saturday, it was hot, it looked like it was going to rain and I didn’t want to get off the couch. I know, I’m an idiot.

I wasn’t about to let that happen again, so when the same producer started work on a movie he was making that involved hockey, I wanted in. Okay, so it’s a musical. And one of the stars is Olivia Newton-John. But Hawksley Workman, the Barenaked Ladies and a bunch of other people were attached to the project, so I wanted in.

Nope. They Couldn’t figure out how to write a part for me especially since I don’t sing. And now the movie has been selected to open the Toronto International Film Festival this fall.

I should have never turned down that first role. Now I’m blackballed. I’m an idiot.

Here’s the Deal with Kevin Cogill

Does the name Kevin Cogill ring a bell? He was the American dude caught and convicted of uploading a copy of Chinese Democracy by Guns ‘N Roses. He sentence was two months’ house arrest—and he had to make a public service announcement warning of the perils of illegal file-sharing.

Well, I haven’t seen that PSA yet. Have you? No you haven’t. And you want to know why? No one—not even the Recording Industry Association of America—made him do it. What actually happened is an interesting story.

Finally, I had a chance to sit down with everyone in the Dead Weather last week. Jack White may be the marquee name, but when the band does interviews, he insists that everyone be involved and that everyone gets to do some talking.
