Here’s what I discovered today.
Here’s the Deal with Mustaine
I want to start with a book recommendation. I was up late last night because I got stuck in the autobiography of Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine. It’s not out until Tuesday, but I got an advance copy. There are so many drug stories in the book and so much alcohol that I woke up with a hangover this morning.
The best parts of the book detail the rocky relationship Dave has with Metallica. He was one of the founding members back in 1981. He also talks about the time his hand fell asleep and wouldn’t wake up.
The book is simply called Mustaine. Watch for it in bookstores and online as of Tuesday. I’ve seen the hardcover for less than 20 bucks.
I’m talking to Dave this week, so I should have more about the book soon.
Here’s the Deal with Last Shop Standing
Another book recommendation. It’s called Last Shop Standing: Whatever Happened to Record Stores. A guy named Graham Jones went on a trip through the UK, visiting independent record shops to see how they’re surviving—or not. He meanders a little too much in places and the book could have used a more forceful editor, but there are some great stories.
Here’s the Deal with I Need That Record!
On the same subject, there’s a new documentary called I Need That Record: The Life and Death of Indie Music Stores. Here’s the full trailer:
Here’s the Deal with Who Killed Nancy?
And one more documentary recommendation. It’s called Who Killed Nancy? and is an investigation into the murder of Nancy Spungen, the girlfriend of Sex Pistols bass player, Sid Vicious on October 12, 1978. Sid was charged with stabbing her to death but was never convicted because he died of a heroin overdose first.
Who Killed Nancy? was released in the UK last year, but it’s only now getting a North American release. Here’s the full trailer:
