Here’s The Deal: MySpace, Google, Iron Maiden, Body Count

Here’s the Deal with MySpace

Here’s what I discovered today.

I have long been a defender of MySpace, especially when it comes to searching for music.  Unlike Facebook, you don’t need an account and you don’t have to worry about how Facebook tramples all over your privacy.

But here’s an interesting stat regarding the people who post music to the web.  A survey was conducted throughout the month of June.  The biggest artists update their Facebook page 25.5 times while they published to their MySpace page just 3.4 times.  And when it comes to Twitter, top artists posted 81.4 times.  Justin Bieber posted 336 times, which is one more than P Diddy.

Of course, there’s more to this story, but no matter how you look at it, MySpace is in trouble.  Damn.  I like MySpace.

Here’s the Deal with Google

An update on Google’s push into the music world:  The Goog’s answer to iTunes will apparently be called “Google Music” and will be launched at the same time as version 3.0 of the Android operating system for smart phones.  That will be around the end of the year

Let’s not forget that Google has a music service running in China—but all the songs are free.  But if you’re hoping for that to happen here, forget it.  Still, competition with iTunes will definitely be a good thing.

Here’s the Deal with Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden is finishing up a tour across Canada—Ottawa tonight, Montreal tomorrow, Quebec City Friday.  But a lot of people reported back to me that they’ve been a little disappointed in the set list.  No “Run to the Hills,” no “Trooper,” no “2 Minutes to Midnight,” no “Wasted Years.”

That sounded weird, so we sent Mike Sullivan to corner singer Bruce Dickinson.

Here’s the Deal with Body Count

Finally, it looks like Body Count will be in the house once again.  Whilst backstage at the Warped Tour in California. Mike Sullivan ran across Ernie-C, the guitarist from Body Count—and the guy who produced the demos for Rage Against the Machine and the Stone Temple Pilots. Those demos got those bands signed to their record deals.

It was the evening backstage BBQ and Ernie sat down on a couch next to Mike.  So they got to talking.  What’s new?

ExploreMusic Playlist: The songs featured on the radio show today were:

“Enjoy The Silence” by Nada Surf
“Body Count’s In The House” by Body Count
“Survive” by Miyavi
“Latest Heartbreak” by 22-20s
