Here’s The Deal: the iPod, Steven Adler, Pearl Jam, U2

Here’s what I’ve discovered today.

Here’s the Deal with iPod’s Market Share

Here’s a surprise: the most dominant MP3 player in the world today is…anyone? The iPod. According to a study conducted by a tech news company called NPD Group, the iPod holds a 76% share of the MP3 player market. They’re talking about all iterations, obviously, from the Shuffle to the iPhone.

The other 24% is divided up amongst everyone else, including Microsoft and their Zune player.

The Zune is actually pretty good. I like the interface and the software. It should really have more than just 1% of the market—but the iPod is so dominant and such a cultural talisman that no one is ever going to catch it.

Here’s the Deal with Steven Adler’s Autobiography

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a really salacious rock’n’roll autobiography—and this is a good one. I guess Steven Adler of Guns ‘N Roses saw how well Slash did with his book that he’s decided to write his own to prove that he, in fact, was the single most self-destructive human in the history of rock. It’ll be called My Appetite for Destruction. This should be interesting: one stroke, two heart attacks, three failed suicide attempts, several trips to jail and twenty-eight heroin, crack and coke overdoses. How is this dude not dead? The book comes out on the 27th. I’ll read it. Won’t you?

Here’s the Deal with Pearl Jam Break-up Rumours

Worried about reports from Portugal that Pearl Jam is packing it in? Don’t be. Eddie always says something along the lines of “you won’t see us for a while” at the end of every tour. Looks like something merely got lost in translation.

Here’s the Deal with the U2 Tour

And fans can stop being worried about U2. You’ve probably heard about how all the cancelled North American dates have been rescheduled. (They’re not going to happen until next summer, but at least they’re going to happen. I wonder how many people are going to lose their tickets between now and then?)

The band released a video statement yesterday. Here it is:

This should be one hell of a read. I’m willing to be that Slash has nothing on this for sure!
