Here’s the Deal with U2′s Tour

U2 is definitely back in business after Bono’s back surgery and seventeen postponed dates in North America. The European tour starts Monday in Turin, Italy. They should have finished constructing the first of the three Claw stages today. Rehearsals for the tour should begin tomorrow at the latest. I have some pictures of what’s going on.

Here’s the Deal with G. Love

G. Love is out of Philadelphia—dad is a rich banking lawyer—and he’s been making music for at least 17 years now. He’s finally comfortable enough to collaborate with others and has some interesting projects on the go on both sides of the rock spectrum. We got to him at a Jack Johnson show recently.


Here’s the Deal with Arcade Fire’s Webcast

And I know this sounds like a set-up to a joke, but it isn’t. What do you get when you cross the Arcade Fire with Monty Python? The reason I ask is that the band has a big webcast next Thursday night (August 5) from Madison Square Garden—and they’ve hired former Python animator (and big-time movie director) Terry Gilliam to direct everything. This sounds like a little overkill to me, especially given the kind of over-the-top work Gilliam usually does—but we’ll see.

It’ll start at 10pm ET through YouTube and Vevo, the music site. Oh, and the album, The Suburbs, is out next Tuesday, too.

    I wont be seeing them this time around, and I haven’t missed a tour since The Unforgettable Fire. They are great even with their OTP productions, but I think they have forgotten that sometimes less is more. U2 once was about 4 lads on a stage that had a white flag as its only adornment and the band sang and played like it was End Days. They say you can’t go home again, but maybe people who say that never tried.
