Jeff Beck Talks

2 years ago by Jeff Woods |

Finally, I can cross another Legend off the short list, having gotten the chance in Toronto, before his show with Eric Clapton, to sit across from Jeff Beck and chat about many things past, present and future.     And what pleasure it was.  He was incredibly talkative, forthcoming, unguarded and open.  As such, I’ve just scheduled a 2 part Legends of Classic Rock series featuring Jeff Beck.  It will air the last two Sundays in April and highlight Jeff Beck’s career from Yardbirds through to the upcoming album ‘Emotion and Commotion’.

What will you find out about Jeff Beck?  Many things, in fact he’ll tell you:

- the story behind being offered the gig as the other guitarist in the Rolling Stones (the slot Ronnie Wood would instead take)

- the story behind why Beck didn’t play Woodstock

- when Jeff Beck thought he was in over his head

- how he got interested in hot-rods

-  Jeff Beck’s greatest guitar influence and lots more.

As my friend Andy Frost has always said, Jeff Beck is a guitar god, hence the title of the Legends series in 2 parts, airing on your radio this April.

Meanwhile, this – from a couple years ago, available now where you buy music, from a DVD called ‘Jeff Beck Live At Ronnie Scott’s’.

Enjoy,

Jeff.

Great, love to hear Beck’s work. Only time I saw Jeff was at MLG as: Beck, Bogart and Apice trio. Man it was exceptional. For the life of me I can’t remember where Bogart nor Carmen (?) Apice came from.

Also that he’s a Car Guy!
    Thanks Jeff.

I went to the concert on Sun night & it was AMAZING!!! Clapton & Beck are Guitar Gods!!

Ah, Jeff, you’ve made me a happy lass! I was at the show on Sunday night – first time I’ve seen either of these Guitar Gods (Andy is so very right) – and I was trying to describe all sorts of things to friends & family who hadn’t come along. Like which guitars E & J were favouring (interestingly enough, the very same ones they’re playing in the video you posted!), and the amusing way Beck puts his arms up in victory after a song. You’ve given me visuals to help the process – thank you! (And I got video on my own of their “Moon River” duet at the ACC & have temporarily left it public on Facebook, in case you wanted to see it again: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150090603350137 )

I am really looking forward to your two part LOCR on Jeff Beck. I was one of the fortunate 16,000 who got to see him at the ACC on Feb 21st. OMG, he is a Guitar God. I had never seen him live before. I wish I had. His artistry and musicality is awe-inspiring. His passion is amazing. I think that he has been totally underrated all these years. Yes, his fans have know that he is an amazing guitarist but did the rest of the world? Clapton may be God but Beck is the Almighty Divine.

    Hi Jeff

You must be thrilled to speak with such an esteemed musician. You may have a short list left, but given your specialty of classic rockers time is of the essence. In the words of The Who-Who’s Next?

  • carol mason

Beck is excellent, Clapton is better

Great video, Jeff. Thanks. Years ago, the Yardbirds were supposed to appear on the Johnny Carson Show (The Tonight Show). However, as he put it once the show had started, that they would not be appearing for some seemingly inane reason, and called them some snotty little name. Do you know who was in the Yardbirds at that time?

WOW! Hubby and I were there on Feb.21/10. Talk about being blown away. We have never seen talent like these guys. Guitar gods both of them. We are not new to the concert scene and we can say without a doubt that this concert was one we will cherish for our lifetime. thks guys
