It is the capital and largest city of the province of Manitoba in the mighty country of Canada, containing more than sixty percent of Manitoba’s population. You will find it near the longitudinal centre of North America at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, also known as ‘The Forks’. The name WINNIPEG, comes from the Cree, meaning "muddy waters". And yes, the people of Winnipeg, do in fact like their blues, and their classic rock, with thanks in part to legendary Winnipeg radio station 92 CITI FM.
My good friend Jeff Brown has recently taken over as Program Director of the radio station, hiring the incomparable Samantha Stevens to host the midday show, while the station proudly plays a number of legends often associated with the ‘Peg, from The Guess Who to BTO, Streetheart, Harlequin and the biggest of them all – Jeff Brown’s favourite artist of all time – Neil Young – who gets more play on CITI than anywhere on radio, I’ll bet.
And deservedly, Neil gets his share of airtime on my Legends series, which I’m pleased to report begins airing on 92 CITI FM Winnipeg this weekend! The weekly hour long show will air Sunday mornings from 8 til 9, with encore airings of some of the best shows of the last year, and a brand new season of shows beginning in late August. If you have a suggestion for a show theme, let me know as I’m putting the fall schedule together now.
