Mute Gavin

2 years ago by Alan Cross |

With the reunion of Bush, there’s a renewed interest in certain things about this band. Here’s a weird fact about singer Gavin Rossdale. He was practically a mute for the first four years of his life. From the time he was born until he was four, he rarely said a word. Once in a while, he’d say something to his sister—-but other than that, nothing.

He communicated mainly by pointing. “The demands of life are not really great on a four-year-old,” he says. “You sleep, you eat, you point.” Naturally, this really concerned his parents. He finally broke his silence when his mother wouldn’t give him what he was pointing to until he said what it was. And for the record, the first word Gavin Rossdale’s parents heard him say was “cookie.”
