This is a story about the integrity of the record album, thought by many to be a lost entity, in an age in which one-off songs can be purchased, instead of the whole record, a practise that kept music on the AM Radio dial, for many years. But some of us, wanted to hear more than just the hit single. Every great FM station gets that. Evidently, the integrity of the album still means something in a court of law, thanks to the paper work Pink Floyd’s people dug and and presented to the judge.
And so, when it comes to Pink Floyd, it’s all or nothing. "EMI is not entitled to exploit recordings by online distribution or by any other means other than the complete original album without Pink Floyd’s consent." And there’s more. For the story on the Floyd win, click HERE

Hi Jeff,
WEll kudos to my fav band its nice the principle of the matter is presented first…no greed just the facts.
cheers
have a great weekend -
I’m glad Pink Floyd took EMI to court and won! Plain and simple, EMI did not honour the contract.
-
I love all Pink Floyd music, but their music is best when it is heard on the full album.

I agree with Pink Floyd – their concept albums should be sold as single entities … the nature of their albums (one song leads to the next, often without break) creates a unique musical experience … now that they have won their case, perhaps other artists can now protect their concept albums in a similar manner … Cheers!

I also like pink flloyd as a whold LP,listening to one song is just not enough for me

A win for the good guys, I could not listen to just one song off a Floyd CD especially not off of “Dark Side”. I think that defeats the purpose of the concept album but that is just me. I’m just glad EMI was not able to re-write the contract, artists get screwed by the record industry enough.

Great Album..good for those guys!

I guess the whole thing comes down to this. the record company hoping they can make eazy money by doing what they tried. Maybe they thought P F would just sit back and let it happen. Good for the band to step up to bat and get what is rightfully theirs’.

This is a great thing to happen. Pink Floyd has satood up for their music, unlike some other music artists. I hope this applies to “remastered” Cds too. i maily support beacasue of Tool. They show why the album is their (make a story through it). Again, great for Pink Floyd
