Back in the fall of 1996, Pearl Jam played a show in Miami. During the gig, a fan somehow managed to get on stage and make off with one of Stone Gossard’s guitars.
How this dude did it was a mystery–especially since this 18 year-old was really drunk. He might have gotten away with it, too, but when he sobered up, he started bragging to his friends about what he had done.
These friends then ratted the kid out to Pearl Jam’s label. Then they hired a private detective to find this kid and to shake him down. But before that happened, the kid panicked and mailed the guitar back to Pearl Jam’s record label. Stone got his guitar back and no charges were filed.

that’s intense, why rat him out? should’ve kept it or auctioned it off

That’s really lame. It’s a pretty low thing to do. Music is supposed to bring people together and all that, not have stupid people start stealing stuff. I’m glad Stone got his guitar back, and the dude is lucky that no charges were filed. And I mean, If you’re gonna do something dumb like that, yes you’re gonna brag, and you’re gonna get caught. Although, if you don’t brag about it, then there’s no point in doing it. So in the end, no matter what way it flows, it’s still a lose-lose situation for the dumbass. hahha

Pearl Jam already auction off enough of their guitars (signed) for charities…
but yes… i am curious how he got away with the guitar before being beaten to no end by security.
