Being accused for plagiarism is an ugly thing. Someone either steals creative work that is yours OR you’re accused of stealing something that someone else had created.
In 1982, the Clash got sued for plagiarism. The suit wasn’t brought forth by an aggrieved ex-member or some unknown singer-songwriter who claimed the Clash stole his song. No, they were sued by an American company called FlushCo. FlushCo makes toilet bowl cleaners. So what was their problem? The song "Innoculated City" from the Combat Rock album used a sample of one of their American TV commercials for a product called “2000 Flushes” without permission. The Clash had to re-edit the song and re-issue Combat Rock as part of the settlement.
