Nothing else that happened this week quite compares to me discovering this.
Dee Snider (Twisted Sister frontman, solo artist, author, actor, and everything else) has started a campaign called Take Back The Horns. At that site you will find the mission statement, in which Dee explains the problem. Basically, the problem is that The Metal Horns are being thrown, so to speak, in non-metal situations and, occasionally, by non-metal individuals.
Not only do we now have a forum to discuss the issue, we can upload photos capturing instances of Metal Horn usage and vote on whether the situation/person is metal or not. Dee also helpfully explains the origins of the hand gesture in question, when it is and when it is not appropriate to use it, who is to blame for its widespread misuse, and ways to possibly dissuade offenders.
Dee Snider is the man with the conviction, the drive, and apparently the time to unite the metal community to take back The Metal Horns. His articles are also really funny. Cancel your plans to see New Moon and go to the site.
There’s even a section to buy TBTH merch. That’s right, they’re selling everything from t-shirts and hats to boxer shorts and thongs. If I can justify spending $23.99, I’m going to buy the ceramic travel mug.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is a new Bob Dylan video. Well, it’s really the song that I want to draw attention to.
I can’t come down on an artist like Dylan. I know even the greatest have their moments of not so greatness…I’m going to say that song is best left forgotten. There is no Bob Dylan track called "Must Be Santa."
I leave you with this long-overdue PSA from Fred Durst. (Spoiler Alert) There will be profanity.
